Miss O'Leary

In term three primary 7b are learning to use their reading skills in different reading groups. We are learning to use our skills in reading to answer questions, ask questions of our own and to create texts and other pieces of work based on what we read. We are also learning to write creative pieces of writing focussing particularly on creating an atmosphere using different writing techniques.

We chose to focus on writing about different atmospheres as we are learning about peace and conflict throughout history and throughout the world today. At the beginning of the term there was a lot of news about war because of the tension between American and Iran. The pupils were very interested in this and the reasons behind war and therefore we decided to learn about past wars and compare them to conflicts around the world today. In doing this, we focussed particularly how World War 2 changed the city of Dundee and are going to consider how conflicts around the world could potentially impact us now. At home we are being encouraged to carry out research of our own and to bring it into class. We will be working on a home project on WW2 of our choosing. We have practised research skills in class but can continue to develop them at home. Some of the following sites might help:
Tensions have continued to rise between the United States and the country of Iran, in the Middle East following the death of Iran's most powerful military commander. Read our guide to what's been ...
What was World War II? World War II involved many countries around the globe fighting against each other, including the UK. It lasted six years, from 1939-1945.
Remembrance Day. For almost six years from 1939 to 1945 Britain fought the toughest war it had ever experienced. World War II was total war - every person, every business, every service was involved. Britain did not fight alone, the war also involved many countries.
In numeracy we are learning about decimals. Last term we consolidated out learning in fractions and worked hard on presenting tenths and hundredths in the form of fractions. This term we are using this knowledge and linking it to represent tenths and hundredths as decimals. The pupils can extend their practise of fractions, decimals and other mathematical processes at the following website where they can use they login provided to them at school:
